Therapy for Adults

Understanding what you feel. Recognising your patterns. Building new ways of relating to yourself and to others.

— Adults

A space for reflection, understanding and transformation

Throughout life, there are moments when we feel emotionally overwhelmed, lost or stuck in patterns that seem to repeat themselves, even when we try to do things differently.

Anxiety, sadness, relationship difficulties, life changes or inner conflicts can deeply affect the way we feel and relate to others.

Psychotherapy is a space for reflection, understanding and transformation. A space where you can explore your story, make sense of your emotional experiences and develop new ways of dealing with yourself, with others and with life’s challenges.

My work is based on an integrated understanding of the person, taking into account their individual history, their emotional bonds and the family, social and cultural contexts they live in.

— When to seek help

When can psychotherapy help?

Individual psychological support can be particularly important at times of:

  • Anxiety and emotional distress: persistent anxiety, panic attacks, stress, feelings of insecurity or difficulty regulating emotions.
  • Relationship difficulties: repetitive patterns in romantic, family or interpersonal relationships, fear of abandonment, difficulties with intimacy or with setting boundaries.
  • Times of transition: separations, grief, parenthood, career changes, migration or other significant transformations.
  • Family history and early experiences: understanding how childhood experiences and family relationships shape emotional and relational functioning in adult life.
  • Emotional regulation: understanding and coping with intense emotions, ambivalence, frustration and behaviour patterns that are hard to change.

You do not need to be going through a crisis to seek psychological support. Sometimes the wish to know yourself better and to understand certain difficulties is, in itself, a good enough reason to begin this process.

— Approach

An approach centred on the person and on relationships

I believe that understanding what happens to us means looking beyond the symptoms.

In psychotherapy, we seek to understand the meaning of emotional experiences, identify patterns of thinking, behaviour and relating, and explore how our history shapes the way we live in the present.

The therapeutic process is built together, respecting each person’s pace, needs and uniqueness.

The aim is not only to relieve suffering, but also to foster a more secure relationship with yourself, greater emotional awareness and new possibilities for relating to others.

— Between cultures

Supporting multicultural individuals and families

Living between different cultures can bring very enriching experiences, but also specific challenges around identity, belonging, communication and relationships.

Distance from one’s family of origin, adapting to a new country, cultural differences and family expectations can have a significant impact on emotional well-being and on relationships.

Being Portuguese and having personal experience of life in a multicultural family, I understand some of these complexities first-hand. This experience, together with my training and clinical practice, is a real asset when supporting people who live these realities.

Sessions can take place in Portuguese or English.
