Family Therapy

The family is our first place of belonging, learning and identity-building. It is within family relationships that we develop much of the way we feel, communicate and relate to others. Throughout life, these relationships also go through challenges, conflicts, changes and moments of transition that can create difficulties in family dynamics.

Family therapy offers a space for understanding and reflecting on these relationships, allowing difficulties to be seen not only through the individual experience of each member, but also through the way everyone influences and relates to one another.

Understanding the family to transform relationships

Each family has its own history, built from the experiences, bonds, expectations and ways of communicating of its members. Sometimes certain patterns of interaction repeat themselves over time, contributing to conflict, emotional distance or difficulty in finding answers to the challenges that arise.

My work seeks to understand these dynamics, giving space to the different perspectives and experiences of each family member. I aim to help identify relational patterns, understand emotional needs that are not always expressed, and create new possibilities for communication and connection.

What matters most is understanding each person’s place and experience, recognising that a change in one relationship can open up new possibilities for the whole family system.

— How it works

How the process works

Support is adapted to each family’s history and needs. Sessions may involve the whole family or different members, individually or in small groups, depending on the goals and the stage of the therapeutic process.

The work takes place in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space, where each person can find room to express their experience, be heard and better understand the experience of others.

The aim is to foster more conscious, flexible and secure family relationships, strengthening bonds, communication and each family’s ability to find new ways of facing challenges throughout life.

I am a Family Therapist, certified by the Portuguese Society of Family Therapy (Sociedade Portuguesa de Terapia Familiar). Sessions can take place at my practice or online.
